New Delhi: Actress Tanushree Dutta created a storm and led to the start of MeToo movement in India after she accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual misconduct on the sets of a film back in 2008. While several actors from the industry came forward and extended their support to the actress, there were few who raised their doubts on her claims.
Adist this, Tanushree filed an official complaint against Patekar and an investigation was launched into the matter. The allegations led to Patekar’s ouster from a big-budget flick ‘Housefull 4’. Now, in the latest, Tanushree has filed a defamation suit of Rs 10 crore against controversial actress Rakhi Sawant for trying to malign her image.
Advocate Nitin Satpute spoke to Republic TV about the case and said that a criminal and a civil defamation case has been filed against Rakhi for maligning her client’s image. He added that if Rakhi fails to revert to the notice, she would be punished for two years or fine or both.

In 2008, Tanushree, while shooting for an item number for ‘Horn Ok Pleassss’, accused Nana Patekar of indecent behaviour and walked out the sets. She was replaced by Rakhi Sawant for the dance sequence. Following Tanushree’s revelations, Rakhi held a press conference and accused the former of seeking publicity and levelling false charges on Patekar. She alleged that claims made by Tanushree were false as she wants to grab some publicity.
Days after the conference, Rakhi filed a written complaint in the Oshiwara police station, Mumbai for receiving threats for backing the senior actor and Raj Thackeray’s political party MNS in the matter.
