Joint fillers are being extensively used in today’s time, not only for the purpose they serve when it comes to keeping the tiles intact but also for the aesthetic value that these fillers offer to the flooring. Essentially, these fillers have proven to be the most efficient and lasting solution to the problem of cracking of tiles and stones used for flooring. Let us take a look at some of the qualities of joint fillers that make them worthy of the money spent on them –

There are two types of joint fillers that are essentially used in a large majority of construction projects. Let us understand each one of them in greater detail.

1. Control Fillers

Control fillers are meant to keep stress cracking of the slabs in check, in case the concrete expands or contracts due to changes in temperature or moisture conditions. Usually comprising of polyuria, this filler also offers protection against heavy usage. It is known to cure swiftly and offer a high compressive strength. Ideally meant to be used for new constructions, this filler may also be used in existing ones, where the concrete joints are in need of protection. In this case, the filler is ground and polished smooth for added convenience.

2. Expansion Fillers

Expansion fillers are known for occupying a comparatively larger space than the control fillers. These fillers are majorly used for situations when the flooring is succumbed to move due to vibration or settling of the ground beneath. Majorly used as a measure to restore concrete floors, this type of joint filling works on the principle of 2-sided bond formation as against the 3-sided bond formation in the case of control fillers.
While it is highly advisable to make use of the best available joint fillers, right at the time of construction to avoid any unwanted cracks in the tiles, one can also opt for the appropriate filler at a later stage, in order to restore the existing flooring, especially in case of concrete floors.
